The Birth

a film by Sarah Hatherley

7 minutes - 2017 - Australia

Home births can be a risky business, particularly if your partner is a bloke on a mission.

Sarah Hatherley

Since her award winning short, Just Do It, and after a stellar career writing and directing brand films, Sarah has developed a body of work all with a trademark glimmer of light emerging out of a dark, often funny, realism. In 2017 Sarah was an Australian Directors’ Guild nominee for Best Direction in a short film for Lost Soul, a powerful, mesmerising, psychological thriller that premiered in the Noves Vision competition at Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, Oct 2016. A La Vérité Films Production.
Following Sitges, with a gestation of only 6 weeks, Sarah wrote, directed, edited and produced The Birth, a tightly crafted comedy about a home birth gone wrong. Selected in competition for Tropfest - the world’s largest short film festival - one of only 16 films to make the finals, it premiered in Sydney, Feb 2017. It most recently screened at HollyShorts in LA, USA, August 2017.
Hatherley is currently in pre-production on her next film project; having decided the latest of her three feature films screenplays is the perfect scale for a first time feature director.
